I was on holiday, staying in Exeter England. I had a few hours to spare,so i took
the Bus to Lyme Regis. It is in West Dorset , a seaside town on the coast of the
English Channel. It is a lovely small town population about 3,700. Situated just over
the border from Devon in Dorset. Nearest rail station is in Axminster 5 miles away.,served
well by bus. Lyme Regis is on the river Lym (Lim) I was only here for a short
time The harbour wall is called the Cobb., but what i saw i loved. Broad Street is mostly hilly down to the harbour. The
beaches are South facing. The cliffs are noted for finding fossills., because this is part of the Jurassic Coast which is from Exmouth in East Devon to Dorset some 96 miles [ 154km]. It is a World Heritage Site. Millions of years of Geological history covering Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceeous periods. 71 different rock strata found in Lyme Regis. The cliffs are Jurassic clay and shale, landslips are often. -- A mill was mentioned in the Domesday book in 1086.
